Yerba mate (ma-tay) is often selected as an alternative to coffee because it combines caffeine with theobromine and theophylline which doesn’t cause any jittery feeling like coffee often does. It is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids, as well as several nervous system stimulants, to provide a feeling of sustained energy throughout the day. Yerba mate tea boosts immunity, cleanses your body, improves mood, and enhances focus. It also aids nutrient absorbtion, promotes heart health and reduces fatigue.
Yerba mate has an herbal grassy flavor similar to some types of green tea. Made from twigs and leaves of the yerba mate tree, it is best steeped in hot (not boiling) water.
Pour 1 c boiling water over 1 tsp of yerba mate, cover, and steep 3-5 minutes.
